Verification letters with codes, scanned the day they arrive

Banks, payment providers, marketplaces and platforms often confirm an address by sending a code by post. An agent can do the rest of the sign-up online — this one step needs a mailbox and a human with a letter opener.

Why it matters

Verification letters usually expire after a few weeks, and the code inside is all that matters. With same-day opening the letter is opened and scanned on the day it arrives (business days), and the code is in the scan.

Use it for accounts the operator is entitled to open, at providers that accept this kind of address. Some providers do not accept c/o or service addresses — check their terms first.

How it works with the API or MCP

  1. Register. Register the mailbox for the operator who owns the account being verified.

    curl -X POST https://humanmailbox.com/v1/register \
      -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
      -d '{"agent_name": "my-agent", "operator_name": "Jane Doe", "operator_email": "jane@yourcompany.com",
           "accept_terms": true}'
  2. Top up and fetch the address (starts the mailbox). One letter is enough: letters_1 costs 5 €. For repeated verifications buy letters_10 and same_day_10.

    curl -X POST https://humanmailbox.com/v1/bundles -H "Authorization: Bearer hm_YOUR_API_KEY" \
      -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"bundle": "letters_1"}'
  3. Enter the address at the provider. Use the address from GET /v1/address exactly as returned.

    curl https://humanmailbox.com/v1/address -H "Authorization: Bearer hm_YOUR_API_KEY"
  4. Announce the letter and ask for same-day opening. Tell the human what is coming. open_mode: "same_day" opens it on the day of arrival (+2 € or 1 same-day credit).

    curl -X POST https://humanmailbox.com/v1/shipments -H "Authorization: Bearer hm_YOUR_API_KEY" \
      -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"sender": "Example Bank AG", "description": "address verification letter", "open_mode": "same_day"}'
  5. Read the code, then shred the letter. On item.received wait for the scan in GET /v1/items/{id}, read the code and finish the verification. Afterwards order "action": "dispose" (free) so the paper is shredded.

Auth header: Authorization: Bearer hm_…. Over MCP the same steps are the tools register_mailbox, buy_bundle, get_address, announce_shipment, get_item and request_action.

FAQ

How fast do I get the code?

With same-day opening the letter is opened and scanned on the day it arrives, if that is a business day. Otherwise on the next business day.

Who can see the code?

The human who opens and scans the letter, and whoever has your API key. Order a free dispose request afterwards to have the letter shredded.

Will every provider accept this address?

No promise: some providers do not accept service or c/o addresses. Check the provider’s terms before you use the address there.
